Flight to Cameroon:
The flight from London to Amsterdam was fine with just a short layover in Amsterdam before my flight to Kenya. In Kenya, I had a 13 hour layover which was hard. I slept in the lounge as long as I could, but after a few hours, I decided it was no use.

I asked about going out into Nairobi for a few hours and was told that I didn't have a visa, so no way. So I watched a movie until my laptop battery went dead. I thought I had the right adapter for my charger, but the plugs in Kenya are the same as in the UK so I was out of luck. So I wandered around the airport looking at all the stuff the people are trying to sell. Then I went back to the lounge and finished one of the books I had been given for graduation. Now just a few more hours before leaving for Cameroon.

Information is Everything:

Now I was down to just a couple more hours before the flight to Yaoundé. I walked around the airport one more time. I was talking to a man in one of the shops and he told me that to go out of the airport, all I had to do was pay $20.00 and I could get a visa for the day. On the way back, I found out that the Euro plugs will fit in the UK type outlet, so my charger actually would have worked. Had I known either of these pieces of info, I could have had a fun filled day of entertainment. In any case, I finally was on my way to Cameroon.

Yaoundé:

I arrived on time at 10:30p.m. Saidou was there to meet me. It was so great to see him again after almost 4 years. I had no trouble at all getting trough immigration and getting out of the airport. Saidou's friend, Adamou was with him and they had hired a taxi to take us to the hotel.

We stayed the night at the Kaele Hotel near the Peace Corps offices.

We spent Wednesday in Yaoundé taking care of exchanging my money which ended up taking several hours. The rest of the day we spent relaxing and settling in. We also went by Adamou's house and met and his family. His wife cooked a nice meal for us.

Adamou, Brad, Saidou, and Ishatou

The following morning, we got up and took the bus to Bamenda where Saidou lives. We were fortunate to find a big bus that was much more comfortable than the bush taxis.
