On Wednesday the 15th, we got up and left for Bafasam. We arrived there around noon. We rode on the Bush Taxi you see here, and as always, we weren't allowed to vomit...
We had to wait almost an hour, and the boys selling things were happy to have their photos taken.
In Bafasan, we dropped our bags off at one of Saidou's friend's house and then went to the home of Adidja's family. Her father had passed away and Saidou wanted to pay his respects. Adidja was very glad to see us.
Her father had two wives and they were there and greeted us. Since they were in mourning, they could not shake our hands. They got up from time to time and did a slow dance in a circle waving a branch from a tree and singing. |

From Bafasam, we left on our way for Limbe. We were disappointed to be reminded that we could not trust the drivers of the bush taxis. The drivers will tell you anything to get you in their car and then when you are on the way, you will learn that they are only going part of the way, or even somewhere different. So to get to Limbe, we ended up having to spend a night in Doula. It was late at night, so we went straight to a hotel. We didn't like Doula at all.
The next morning, we located Bakary, Saidou's brother, and spent some time with him before leaving for Limbe. |

We finally arrived in Limbe Thursday afternoon. Again we were overcharged by the taxi driver, but we found a very nice hotel called the Costa Marina where we stayed for 4 nights.
A special thanks to Mohamad and Amy, former Peace Corps Volunteers who are at Yale for recommending Limbe. The time here was very relaxing, and enjoyable. A well deserved reward for both me and Saidou at the end of our studies. |
